Tras fumar opio al amanecer, una madre acurruca a su hijo de un año en Badakhshan, provincia de Afganistan el 7 de diciembre, 2009. La mujer era adicta al opio durante el embarazo. Su hijo desde el nacimiento. En su improvisado pueblo de Sarab, se estima que la mitad de los 2000 residentes son adictos a narcóticos.

After an early morning opium smoke, a mother comforts her 1-year-old son in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. The woman was addicted to opium while pregnant. Her son was an addict at birth. In their impoverished village of Sarab, an estimated half of the 2,000 residents are addicted to the plentiful narcotic.
